About josef von brockdorff

I'am a student at the MCAST Art & Design , studying Graphic Design. I'am developing this blog to investigate how digital composition are being integrated with live-action footage. I aim to investigate the effects of this aspect not only on the film industry but also on people working in this sector and the viewers watching these type of films. Any help regarding this topic, please feel free to help.

Dividing class into departments

In the first lecture of this module, we immediately divided our self into different departments depending on what our best strengths are and what we really love to do. Some of these departments consisted of :

Wayfinding

Interactivity

Projection

Brand Communication and Promotion

Construction and more..

Myself together with eight other members chose to group up for the projection department ( the same students who were on the animation department on the Christmas v.18 projection mapping)

Choosing an Exhibition Theme

As a group we need to come up with a strong concept to build the exhibition space on it. Since most of the society don’t have a clue what Graphic Design is all about, we thought it would be a great idea if we brainstorm more about this concept. How can we educate the society more and learn them what really is our job?

So we came up with the idea of using our exhibition space to learn the audience what Graphic Design really mean and consists of. Now we have to think how properly we are going to use the space to achieve this.

Fundamental Principles to follow when building an Exhibition.

Yesterday Mr.Sean Muscat gave us a great presentation explaining very important aspects to consider before even start to put any ideas on paper. Some of these aspects weren’t even considered by me, and in fact had to scrap all ideas that I had in mind, regarding exhibition space concepts. Some of the points we covered were negative and positive space. Negative space is the space left free and without any obstruction for the viewer. While positive space is that built and used for the artwork, combined well together one can create a sort of pattern, grid or control the movement and flow of the audience.

Make Shift – A Graphic Design Exhibition by 22 Students

Their goal in this exhibition was to  show how “graphic design is an experience that seeks to influence audiences through visual communication. It accomplishes this by utilizing the creative process to fuse form and content”

What really caught my attention in this one was how they formed rotational triangular shapes pivoted in the middle by a polo passing through them as seen in the photos below. I think this is a great, very simple way to interact with the viewers. By rotating the shapes one can solve a single image or typography.Image

Practical Effects Masters on the Pros and Cons of CGI

BY DAVID KONOW ON DEC. 12, 2013 AT 10 A.M.

An interesting article discussing how make up artists (Who create stunning effects on characters) in this industry are still surviving although this development of computer generated imagery, which is now taking over. Surprisingly these artists aren’t really against CG.

Joe Alves states that “CG can be absolutely perfect, and it’s in the discretion of the director not to over do it. There’s a convenience with CG, but I think it can be used very well. I’m not at all anti-CGI, because some practical FX are just damn difficult to do.”

This was quite an interesting article but I found it quite late in my study, thus I didn’t use it in my essay.
